Biography

A multi-instrumentalist (sax, guitar, vocals, et al.) and writer by trade, Hassard is a member of Berlin's The Famous Gold Watch Records label collective, his 2021 album 'Rings' released to cult acclaim: spine-chilling balladry, gut thumping industrial drums set to blistering axe work, and an occasional Morricone-esque tilt spilling out of its surf-blues roots foundations. If 'Rings' was a circular fog-stomp through the misty dark streets of Berlin, sophomore album 'Vectors' (2023) channels nascent trajectories, forward momentum, and life at the edge of something new. With serendipitous saxophone harmonies, space-desert production flourishes, rousing backing vocals and spy-drenched clandestine grooves, 'Vectors' swerves from the spaghetti Western-drizzled roar of Rings into diversified lines of force and energy. Here, inklings of heartland nostalgia fuse with grinding bass and organ shimmer on lead single 'Waterline', with punctuating surf licks on sombre 'Lullaby Craze' and the pipeline-ready verve of 'Vectors (RH+TW Surf Theme)'. Delineating Hassard’s shift from long-term HQ in Berlin to Barcelona, Spain, 'Vectors' offers jubilance, nostalgia, closure, proclamations and reflections, an album with magnitude and direction – heartfelt storytelling in the morning light after a long, honeyed stumble through the cobblestones and shadows.
