2023 is the 20th anniversary of plumber and amateur musician Kurt Nilsen becoming an overnight sensation when his Idol audition was aired on Norwegian TV. He went on to win the very first season of the singing competition in Norway, and then became the very first – and only – World Idol. And he never looked back, becoming one of the most successful and loved contemporary Norwegian artists; topping charts, breaking records, winning awards, and touring successfully as a solo artist and as part of an equally chart topping, record- breaking, award-winning quartet whose «just for fun» project snowballed beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. Add to this a symphony orchestra collaboration for an album of classic Christmas songs that from its release has had a stronghold grip on the Christmas charts and was supported by annual sold-out nationwide tours for over a decade.
