Biography

Teddy Mac (real name Ted McDermott) was a British singer known for his version of Frank Sinatra's classic "You Make Me Feel So Young." Mac rose to prominence in 2016 at the age of 80 when his son uploaded a number of videos of them singing in the car together. After Mac was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2013, his son discovered that driving around and singing classics in the car together enabled his father to cope a lot easier with the illness. The footage quickly went viral and managed to increase awareness of the disease with over £114,000 raised for the U.K. care and research charity The Alzheimer’s Society. Mac was a singer for most of his life, having been a Butlins Redcoat who traveled and sang throughout the country. Soon after his rise to national stardom, he earned the nickname "Songaminute Man" due to his ability to remember the lyrics to numerous songs. His viral success eventually led to a record deal with Decca and a recording of the aforementioned Sinatra track with the Guy Barker Big Band at the prestigious Abbey Road Studios in London. The single was released in September 2016 with proceeds going straight to The Alzheimer’s Society. ~ Rob Wacey, Rovi
