Biography

A family affair, the Lee Boys were one of the leading lights in the ‘Sacred Steel' genre of gospel music. ‘Sacred Steel' was a style of music that had roots in blues and gospel but was stylized by the introduction of steel guitars in the 1930s by Willie and Troman Easton, who brought the instruments into the fray of services at the House of God church in Jacksonville, Florida. The Lee Boys, made up of brothers Alvin (guitar), Derrick (vocals), and Keith (vocals) Lee, as well as nephews Roosevelt Collier (pedal steel), Alvin Cordy, Jr. (bass), and Earl Walker (drums), first got their start honing their chops at the House of God church in Perrine, Florida. The Lee Boys have toured all over the country, and in 2002 they played the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Blues to Bop Festival in Switzerland. They were also well-received at the 2006 Chicago Blues Festival. ~ Chris True, Rovi
