LA-based Stephen Ettu’s songwriting journalism project “Ettu” aims to elevate personal stories and the defining moments of the kindred spirits he meets. His journey from Detroit’s soulful R&B roots to LA’s introspective pop scene unfolds with a rotating group of collaborators and featured vocalists. "Anesthesia," the upcoming release featuring Vaughn, is a song about privilege, income inequality, emotional maturity, and the hit-it-and-quit-it aspect of gay dating where no one is good enough. When the high-powered doctor he falls for begins medical school and starts climbing the social ladder, Vaughn is objectified and left on “read,” sorting out his feelings alone. Ettu challenges guest artists to zoom in on candid moments of unapologetic honesty, uncover their unique perspective, and reflect on lessons learned. Influences are found in the multi-layered productions of Imogen Heap and Peter Gabriel, the 2000’s soft pop of Zero 7, Keane, Natalie Imbruglia, & Nelly Furtado, the introverted pop of Julia Michaels, Lauv, & Sufjan Stevens, and the alternative R&B of Sabrina Claudio & Sampha.
