Biography

The Cuban mezzo-soprano continued her studies in operatic singing at the Wüzburg Musikhochschule in Germany with soprano Prof. Cheryl Studer. With a repertoire ranging from lyrical to dramatic roles. Catherine Garrido soon decided on the art of dance. At the age of 8 she took flamenco ballet classes and began to gain experience on stage. She then learned modern dance technique and choreography in the company "Danza Contemporánea de Cuba". The singer herself studied opera and concert singing at the University of the Arts (ISA) in her hometown of Havana after ending her brief career as a professional dancer. As a mezzo-soprano, Catherine Garrido received her first engagements at the Cuban National Opera and at the same time dedicated herself to the theme of the concert. The Cuban mezzo-soprano, endowed with a characteristic voice with a dark and warm timbre, sometimes likes to take up pieces from the soprano repertoire, which allows her the versatility of her voice. During this period of her career abroad, Catherine prefers to commemorate and honor her native Cuba and her roots by performing Cuban classical music and 20th century Cuban composers such as Ernesto Lecuona, Eduardo Sánchez de Fuentes, Gonzalo Roig, among others.
