As a capable violinist and composer, Campagnoli traveled throughout Italy as well as Europe and parts of Scandinavia. As a performer his playing was considered to be lucid and smooth but his historical import stems from the works he wrote for teaching. "Nouvelle methode" may have been a contradiction in terms considering Campagnoli employed old methods for the handling of the violin bow. His methods of tuning, however, were considered innovative.
