Biography

David Menke is a film composer born in Cologne, Germany in 1982. He began playing violin and piano at a young age and later moved on to playing jazz saxophone in various bands. After having studied Tonmeister (Recording Producer) in Vienna (MDW) and Paris (CNSMDP), he began assisting renowned film composer Gabriel Yared with whom he has worked on movies like “Judy” (by Ruper Goold), “By the sea” (by Angelina Jolie) and “The Happy Prince” (by Ruppert Everett). As a composer, he recently scored the French movie “Belle et Sébastien – Nouvelle Génération” by Pierre Coré. Thriving on creative chemistry, he likes to collaborate with other composers, such as Lionel Limiñana (for the Netflix productions “Monsters inside me” and “The last days of American Crime” by Olivier Megaton) and Boris Rogowski (on the Netflix series “Skylines”, commercials for Yves Saint Laurent as well as the upcoming Disney+ show “Sam - A Saxon”). Menke also continues to work as music editor and has worked with many other film composers such as Klaus Badelt, Pierre Adenot, Bryce Dessner (“Cyrano”, “She came to me”), Ben Frost (“Raised by Wolves”, “What remains”), Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir (“Mary Magdalene”) and Ludovico Einaudi (“The Father”). For the latter movie he composed additional music as well. Up until today, David Menke has worked on more than 80 films and lives in Paris and in Vienna, where his production company PDV Records is based.
