Leagan ”Starchild” Breda, born on the 21st February 1986 in Cape Town, South Africa, was brought up in a musical family. He has been playing drums from the tender age of two and hasn’t looked back since. He started playing drums in the Rhema Church Youth Band, which is where he began developing his playing skills and got to identify his sound learning under David Klassen. Leagan was inspired by drum legends like Simon Phillips, Chris Coleman, and Marvin McQuitty. Following these legends lead to a strong connection with drums and fuelled the fire for his love of music. His first professional gig was with Benjamin Dube, on Benjamin’s Live DVD Benjamin Dube & The High Praise Explosion, “Oh! Bless Our God” (2004). He then went on to play with Kabelo, a Kwaito legend, which lead to numerous opportunities with high profile artists in South Africa such as Lira, Loyiso Bala, Salaelo Salota, Jimmy Dludlu, and many others. Leagan has also performed and toured with Israel Houghton, acclaimed Grammy award winning gospel artist, on his Alive in South Africa Tour (2007), as well as Ken Reynolds on his One World One God Tour in South Africa (2010). Leagan then went on to work with Trevor Noah as the musical director on his show Tonight with Trevor Noah. In 2012, Leagan performed with AKA, the opening act for Kanye West on the Castle Lite Feel the Beat of Sub-Zero Experience. He is currently playing for Lira and has been the resident drummer on Idols SA since 2013.
