Biography

Hans Leenders is the artistic director of the professional chamber choir Studium Chorale and vocal ensemble Cantatrix, an artistic adviser to the Dutch Gregorian Festival and the organ festival L'Europe et l'Orgue. He is also a principal subject teacher of organ at the Maastricht Conservatory, conductor of the Conservatory Choir and Basilica Choir Maastricht, and guest teacher of Gregorian chant at the Folkwang-Universität der Künste Essen. Hans Leenders is cantor-organist at the Basilica of Our Lady in Maastricht (Séverin 1652 and Müseler 1765) and titular organist at the Kopermolen in Vaals (Hilgers 1765). Guest conductors include at Slovenian Radio Choir, Cappella Amsterdam, Groot Omroepkoor, Europa Cantat, and many European conservatories. Orchestral productions with Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Symphonieorkest Vlaanderen, Concerto d'Amsterdam, Florilegium Musicum, Apollo Ensemble, and Ensemble '88, specialized in contemporary music. As a composer of vocal music in particular, he has increasingly profiled himself in recent years. Particularly worth mentioning are Patina, a musical theater performance for choir and percussion, a new Requiem for the Dutch ecclesiastical province, and De Veertien Stonden, an oratorio for two organs and choir on a text by Guido Gezelle.
