Biography

Alessandro Stella is an Italian pianist and producer. In 2020, he founded the label Extended Place. Since 2023, he is member of the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy. Regular guest artist at the ‘Progetto Martha Argerich’, and with a sophisticated discography of his own, Alessandro Stella has performed in many of the main Italian, European and Latin American cities. His recordings, released by Extended Place, Artalinna, Kha Records, Stradivarius and Warner Classics, have received unanimous appreciation from international critics, including various awards (Melómano de oro, 5 Diapason, 5 Stars from Classica, Gramophone Editor's Choice and Echo Klassik Award). His innate curiosity has often led him to come up with original, off-the-beaten-path projects. Of immense importance for him was his encounter with the music of Giya Kancheli, Giacinto Scelsi and Valentin Silvestrov. He is intensely involved with chamber music, regularly playing with Gemma Bertagnolli, Gilda Buttà, Mauro Conti, Giovanni Gnocchi, Marcos Madrigal, Ivos Margoni, Tai Murray, Giacomo Palazzesi, Pietro Roffi, Nurit Stark and Nino Surguladze. He is founder member of the three pianos ensemble 'The Pianos Trio' with Giorgia Tomassi and Carlo Maria Griguoli. Notable contemporary composers such as Carlo Boccadoro, Nicola Campogrande, Giya Kancheli and Valentin Silvestrov have written or arranged important works for him, which he then performed and recorded as world premieres.
