Biography

Jazz harpist Milena Hoge presents her instrument as an independent voice in the context of jazz and "world music". Her unwavering enthusiasm as well as her expertise in improvisation set her apart in both the harp and jazz scenes. Milena Hoge studied a bachelor's degree in classical harp as well as instrumental pedagogy at the Detmold University of Music. She is the first harpist in Germany to hold a degree in jazz from the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre where she studied with Prof. Burghard Braune (jazz piano) and Isabel Moreton (harp). She has enriched her education through numerous master classes with Park Stickney and Tara Minton (jazz harp), Andrew Lawrence-King (historical harp), Sivan Magen and Alice Giles (classical harp), among others. From solo and combo to big band and orchestra, from concert hall to studio and festival stage, Milena Hoge is adept in a wide variety of musical contexts playing both pedal and lever harps. In addition to solo performances, she can regularly be heard in the duo "temarioto" with singer Mai Linh Dang and the folk duo "TuneWood". At the World Harp Congress in Wales 2022 she presented her extensive work on extended pedal techniques on the harp.
