Rapture Boy, real name Shaquille Bernhard, grew up in a divided country - South Africa. Blacks wanted to get back to equal treatment after the scales tipped. The whole thing was even more pronounced in Cape Town, where quotas were introduced for blacks in universities, for example. The fierce struggle for equality was felt everywhere. Shaquille's youth was marked by difficult circumstances and a powerlessness to build those bridges. He wanted to escape the uncertainty of those circumstances and the disadvantage of being a person of color in an uncertain environment. He was ready to take the right path after experiencing, as well as living, the opposite. As one of the few who had the courage, he ventured to Switzerland to live with his grandparents in St. Gallen, leaving a lot of pain - and his family - behind. He wanted to be more and learned to work hard in Switzerland - on himself and on his goals. He learned to be more than a race; with the desire to be perceived as someone he is as a human being and to get to know what his path can be. He made/wrote his own path. Write. Your. Own. Way. All this is impressively drawn on Rapture Boys EP - with awe, strength and pain in his music.
