Popnoname, the moniker of Cologne-based musician Jens-Uwe Beyer, embodies atmospheric, melodic tech-house, synth-pop, and experimental ambient works. He began releasing singles and EPs on German labels Firm and Italic in 2005, contributing to Kompakt's Pop Ambient series. His debut, White Album, was released in 2007, followed by Surrounded by Weather in 2008. In 2010, he released Surrounded by Mars, a remix album featuring The Field and Ada. In the same year, Beyer founded the experimental label Magazine with Barnt and Crato, debuting with Render by Cologne Tape. In 2011, he released a collaborative album with Drums Off Chaos, alongside Jaki Liebezeit. His first solo release, Red Book, followed in 2012, then Popnoname's 50° in 2013. In 2013, Beyer and Gesine Schönrock founded the label PNN, focusing on electronic pop. In 2015, he released the ambient album The Emissary under his own name as part of Kompakt's Pop Ambient series. In 2018, he produced Welt by Cologne Tape, followed by the 6-LP Yellow Book (2020) in collaboration with Albert Oehlen on Gagosian. In 2020, Beyer released Horizons as Popnoname on Feines Tier, followed by Horizons Remixes I (2021) and Horizons Remixes II (2023), featuring contributions from artists like Ada, Axel Boman, Alma & Mater, and Fango. In 2023, Hasan Poppu with Thomas Venker was released on Beachcoma, licensed by Osare in 2024. Since 2021, Beyer runs the JUBG gallery with Alexander Warhus and Albert Oehlen, combining music and art.
