Biography

Paul Smith is a British composer, conductor and classical artist born in 1981. He co-founded the Grammy nominated vocal ensemble VOCES8 with his brother Barnaby and sang with the group for 12 years. A multi award winning performer and chart topping recording artist, his debut solo album, ‘Reflections’, was released in 2019. His most recent album, ‘Renewal?’ released in 2022 to critical acclaim. In 2023-2024 he is releasing new music with VOCES8, Apollo5 and as part of a new duo with ‘flute player extraordinaire’, Daniela Mars. Paul has a passion for immersive, interactive music making, and he brings this approach to his recording work and in live performance. ‘Reflections’ is a genre-bending classical album which draws on Paul's travels and work around the world for more than a decade. 'Renewal?' includes six new commissions from Paul, alongside other commissions and masterworks from the 20th and 21st century. The album features vocal superstars VOCES8 & Apollo5 alongside Paul himself on piano, Teena Lyle, Roger Chase, Peter Holder and Caroline Dale, with conducting duties shared between Paul and his brother, Barnaby Smith. Paul is the CEO of the VOCES8 Foundation, which has worked with more than 500,000 young people worldwide since 2007. Paul is passionate about the impact singing and the arts can have in the widest possible context - from academic to social skills and building more cohesive communities. www.voces8.foundation @VOCES8 Daniela Mars Apollo5
