Emily Afton is a queer multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter and performer with roots across California in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Oakland. Her nostalgia-infused alt-pop has been described by NPR as “...wonderful, wonderful electro-pop that’s weary of life, but positive." Having grown up on folk and electronica, Afton's songwriting draws influence from a wide musical spectrum including the likes of Fiona Apple, Frank Ocean, and Crystal Castles. In 2017 Afton was invited to perform her feminist protest song, ‘The Veil' at the San Francisco Women's March, garnering the attention of many in the 40,000-person audience. When the song was officially released on her 2020 EP, Consideration, the song’s response landed Afton’s music on TV shows such as The CW’s Batwoman, and caught the attention of Third Eye Blind frontman, Stephan Jenkins who asked her to join their national tour as direct support. Emily Afton’s most widely recognized song, ‘Lost’ (from her debut album Archetype), was featured on the series Riverdale shortly after, which brought Afton’s music to the international stage for the first time in her career and is still her most streamed song to date. Afton and her band are currently working on their new album, with the first single ‘Make’ slated for release Summer 2023. The new album explores themes of identity, love, and self-acceptance and change amidst a breakup.
