Born in Thabong, South Africa - Phomolo Sekamotho, better known as Flex (of He & I) is a poet MC that incorporates spoken word poetry into live music. He & I is an alternative, ‘poetry in music’, band with influences of jazz, soul and hip- hop. His writing has earned him invites to New York, Washington DC, Uppsala, Stockholm and Maseru. “The vision is to travel, through music. I believe in telling stories, genuine stories. Africa has beautiful stories, what better way to tell these stories than to tell them ourselves?!” Flex works with an incredible group of musicians that serve as his band (He & I). The lead vocalist, Mpotseng Sehume, born and raised in Pretoria has from the grass roots of the band been a resounding songwriter & storyteller with particular interest in indigenous African classical music. Flex of He & I’s debut album, Peace is of a Struggle, is set to be released in October 2020.
