Biography

Michele Pasotti is an Italian multi-instrumentalist who specializes in performing medieval music on the lute, theorbo, Baroque guitar, and other instruments. He studied lute with Massimo Lonardi and attended masterclasses led by Hopkinson Smith, Paul O'Dette, and Tiziano Bagnati. He specialized in Italian Baroque music and Renaissance counterpoint at the Accademia Internazionale della Musica in Milan, working with Laura Alvini and Diego Fratelli. As a student in composition and philosophy, Pasotti worked initially in Italy, but he has become known internationally for his performances with his late-medieval ensemble, La Fonte Musica. Pasotti has appeared in concert with Claudio Abbado, Giovanni Antonini, Monica Huggett, Nathalie Stutzmann, Barthold Kuijken, Mario Brunello, and others, and has performed at such venues as the Concertgebouw, the Theatre des Champs-Elysées, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and La Fenice. In addition to his work with his own ensemble, he has played with Il Giardino Armonico, Orchestra Mozart, I Barocchisti, Orfeo 55, I Solisti dell'Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, the Venice Baroque Orchestra, the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, and the Micrologus Ensemble. He recorded Metamorfosi Trecento with La Fonte Musica on the Alpha Classics label.
