Biography

This popular American band singer was known for his smooth tenor voice. Ryan worked with Sammy Kaye’s very successful ‘swing and sway’ orchestra from 1938-43. He sang on some of their biggest hits, including three chart toppers: ‘Rosalie’, ‘Love Walked In’ and ‘Dream Valley’. He also enjoyed success with ‘Sometimes I’m Happy’, ‘All Ashore’, ‘Carolina Moon’, ‘They Say’, ‘We’ve Come A Long Way Together’, ‘Last Night’s Gardenias’, ‘Make Believe Island’, ‘A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square’, ‘Harbour Of Dreams’, ‘Minka’, ‘On The Street Of Regret’, ‘Johnny Doughboy Found A Rose In Ireland’ and ‘My Buddy’. When he left Kaye, Ryan joined Blue Barron’s sweet orchestra, and took over the leadership for a while when Barron was in the US Armed Forces. He led his own outfit during the late 40s, and appeared in a song series on radio during the early 50s.
