James Julian Villa is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and pop-minded producer/engineer based in Portland, Oregon. Over the last few years he has been making a name for himself producing and co-writing for local artists, as a one-stop shop for radio ready recordings with his own unique flavor. James moved to Portland after a three year education in Canada, studying music composition and piano at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. He has been touring and performing in bands since he was a young teen, from local Canadian music festivals including Kootenay’s Starbelly Jam and Penticton’s Peachfest, to Portland staples like Star Theater, Doug Fir and most recently McMenamins Crystal Ballroom. James’ fresh modern style and finely tuned ear for detail have led to ongoing collaborations with up-and-coming PDX artists Laryssa Birdseye, Hayley Lynn, Blair Borax, and his co-producer and mentor Lewis Childs, with whom he’s been fostering an-ever growing community of musicians, writers and creatives at Groundswell Studios.
