Biography

Was born in Cremona in 1973 and started his violin studies aged 8. He developed his performance style in the baroque and classical repertoire working on numerous documents between the 17th and 19th centuries concentrating especially on the rediscovery of unpublished works. He is a founder member of AleaEnsemble, a chamber ensemble which performs the 18th and 19th century repertoire on period instruments. He has performed Mozart’s Divertimento KV 563 and the 6 Duetti Concertanti for violin and viola by A. B. Bruni. Boccherini’s Op. 2 Quartets, published under the Stradivarius label, drew the attention of international critics as a benchmark performance and won the “Diapason d’Or” and “Choc de Le Monde de la Musique”. The Haydn Op.77 and Op.42 String Quartets, also published by Stradivarius won great critical acclaim. The Dynamic label has recently published a CD of the first recording of Boccherini’s Op. 15 Quartets. For MV Cremona a few CDs of violin sonatas by Cremona composers: Visconti, Zuccari, Zani, Merula. He performs as leader of the second violins with Europa Galante under the violinist Fabio Biondi, and also as soloist in double violin concertos in recordings made by Virgin Classics and Agogique and Naïve; He is also leader of the second violins in the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble. He holds the position of professor of Baroque Violin at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan.
