Two-time "Finnish Grammy"-nominated (Best Jazz Album of the Year, 2019 & 2022) Signe, with four voices and a double bass, moves audiences with their emotive yet powerful performance. Signe's newest project 'Onomatopoesia' is a trilogy of albums, contemplating the need for attachment in one's fast-changing surroundings. The first part of the trilogy, named “Phonemes” (2021 ) consisted of commissioned contemporary works by Tytti Arola, Mikko Sarvanne and Sampo Kasurinen. Phones evolved to syllabi and quasi-words on “Morphemes" that was shortlisted for Finnish Jazz Album of the Year at Emma Gala. Third part was released in June 2023 and presents lyrics by band members Vannesluoma and Savolainen. A sought-after quartet on the Finnish jazz scene and a frequent guest for contemporary and literary events, Signe has also performed at jazz festivals in London, Oslo and Germany. Sonically, the group flows and meanders through traditions of jazz, contemporary classical and folk music. Vocalists Selma Savolainen, Riikka Keränen, Josefiina Vannesluoma and double-bassist Kaisa Mäensivu are in-demand artists in their own right. Signe's first full-lenght album 'To Sappho' (Eclipse Music 2019) was shortlisted for Teosto Prize 2020 as well as for the Finnish Jazz album of the Year 2020. The album draws influences from the poetry fragments that have survived from the pen of Sappho, the archaic Greek poet from the island of Lesbos. vocalssigne@gmail.com
