Self-made man Gecko Turner has been forging his own, truly unique sound ever since he started playing in the 90s, first in different bands, later on his own. His first album Guapapasea! was licensed to Quango for a US release, and featured a unique blend of Motown soul, New Orleans funk, Afro beat, flamenco, pop, bossa nova and Latin jazz that took him to stages all over the world. On follow-up Chandalismo Ilustrado, his sound was further enhanced with funk, highlife, and various Cuban rhythms. After remix album Manipulado, Gecko recorded Gone Down South in Austin, TX and LA, and follow-up That Place by the Thing with the Cool Name was another result of sharing experiences and recording sessions with musicians from remote places, thanks to Gecko's globetrotter lifestyle. Over the years he's collaborated on his albums with players from Texas, Nigeria, Brazil, Cuba, Guinea, England and his home region of Extremedura. In 2018 it was 15 years since his first album, and he celebrated it with Soniquete: The Sensational Sound Of Gecko Turner, a compilation of "greatest hits" and one new tune, Cortando Bajito, proving Gecko Turner is a truly one of a kind. Gecko's songs have been featured on over 70 compilations, as well as in TV commercials and films by the likes of Isabel Coixet, Montxo Armendáriz, and Jorge Colon. He has also produced artists like Brenda Boykin and the late great Fernando Terremoto, on Chocolate & Chili and Terremoto, respectively.
