Biography

Jennifer Kingwell is an Australian performer, broadcaster, writer and composer. Born in Darwin, Kingwell is a classically-trained pianist with a background in electronic music and interactive multimedia. From performing punk ukulele anthems to lush piano compositions, cabaret torch songs to epic pop ballads, Kingwell thrives on duality and versatility and continues to demonstrate to her audience that she is “a performer of delicious contrasts; from virtuosic pianist to pluckin’ ukelele player, vocally ranging from silver tongued angel to gruff pirate.” (Adelaide Tweet). The co-founder of indie cabaret sensation The Jane Austen Argument, Kingwell and co-pilot Tom Dickins were taken under the wing of the infamous Amanda Palmer, a kinship that led to them supporting Palmer on her 2011 Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under Australian tour, 2011 USA West Coast tour An Evening with Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman, and 2012 Dresden Dolls Australian tour. The Jane Austen Argument collaborated with director Kat Henry for their Melbourne Fringe 2012 show Under The Rainbow: Spectacular! Spectacular! to rave reviews (dark, dazzling… killer cabaret. ★★★★★ – Herald Sun) and have performed alongside The Dresden Dolls, Margaret Cho, John Cameron Mitchell and Mikelangelo. <br>
