Biography

Pianist Joseph Middleton specializes in the art of song accompaniment and chamber music and was the first accompanist to win the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist Award. He is a frequent guest at major music centres including Wigmore Hall (where he has curated his own series), New York’s Lincoln Centre and Park Avenue Armory, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Wien, Zürich Tonhalle, Kölner Philharmonie, Oper Frankfurt, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Musée d’Orsay Paris, Oji Hall Tokyo, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and Palau de la Musica. He appears at Festivals in Aix-en-Provence, Aldeburgh, deSingel, Edinburgh, San Francisco, Schwarzenberg, Stuttgart, Toronto and Vancouver and has enjoyed fruitful collaborations with Sir Thomas Allen, Louise Alder, Mary Bevan, Ian Bostridge, Dame Sarah Connolly, Iestyn Davies, Samuel Hasselhorn, Christiane Karg, Katarina Karnéus, Angelika Kirchschlager, Dame Felicity Lott, Christopher Maltman, Ann Murray, Mark Padmore, Miah Persson, Fatma Said and Carolyn Sampson. Joseph enjoys a special relationship with BBC Radio 3, frequently curating his own series and performing at the BBC Proms, and has a critically acclaimed, fast-growing and award-winning discography. He is Director of Leeds Lieder, Musician in Residence at Pembroke College, Cambridge and a Fellow of his alma mater, the Royal Academy of Music, where he is a Professor.
