Biography

Folkeklubben was formed in May of 2011 by a coincidence. The band’s songwriter Kjartan Arngrim was introduced to the drummer Rasmus Jusjong at a party a month before. They met again a couple of weeks after by coincidence. Jusjong had listened to a few of Arngrim’s songs and proposed that they should set up a few gigs and play them live. Anrgrim immediately called his good friend, the guitarist Rasmus Dall, to announce that he had found a drummer. Two weeks after, the three young men were ready on stage at Folkets Park (The People’s Park) in Copenhagen. They had decided on the band name Folkeklubben named after the first Danish folk record “En Aften I Folkeklubben” (A Night In The People’s Club) by legendary folk musicians Cæsar, Per Dich and Poul Dissing. Since that fateful day when Folkeklubben live debuted at Folkets Park in Copenhagen, the band has released an EP, four albums (most recently, Sort Tulipan) and played more than 600 concerts. And it never seems to stop.
