Cologne-based musician Jens-Uwe Beyer creates atmospheric, melodic tech-house, synth-pop, and experimental ambient works. As Popnoname, he began releasing singles and EPs on German labels Firm and Italic in 2005, contributing to Kompakt's Pop Ambient series. His debut full-length, White Album, came out in 2007, followed by Surrounded by Weather in 2008. In 2010, Plaza In-Crowd released Surrounded by Mars, a remix album featuring The Field and Ada. That same year, Beyer co-founded the experimental label Magazine with Barnt and Crato, debuting with Render by Cologne Tape. In 2011, he released a collaborative album with Drums Off Chaos and Jaki Liebezeit. His first solo release, Red Book, followed in 2012, and Popnoname's 50° came in 2013. In 2013, Beyer and Gesine Schönrock founded the label PNN, focusing on electronic pop. In 2015, he released the ambient album The Emissary under his name as part of Kompakt's Pop Ambient series. In 2018, he produced Cologne Tape's Welt, followed by the 6-LP Yellow Book (2020), a collaboration with Albert Oehlen on Gagosian. In 2020, Beyer released Horizons as Popnoname on Feines Tier, followed by Horizons Remixes I (2021) and Horizons Remixes II (2023), featuring artists like Ada, Axel Boman, Alma & Mater, and Fango. In 2023, Hasan Poppu with Thomas Venker was released on Beachcoma, licensed from Osare in 2024. Since 2021, Beyer runs the gallery JUBG with Alexander Warhus and Albert Oehlen, combining art and music.
