Biography

Thierry Eliez is a leading French master of piano and jazz improvisation. At the piano, Hammond organ and keyboards, his playing is among the most instinctive and unexpected in the jazz world, making him a French jazz legend called "the impressionist of jazz". His discretion is matched only by his boundless imagination and electrifying energy on stage. Recognised at an early age as a prodigy of the piano and improvisation, he was 17 when he began touring and recording his first albums. He received the Victoire de la Musique for the album Hat Snatcher co-led with André Ceccarelli and Jean Marc Jafet. And 2023 marks 40 years of an extremely rich international career as a composer, pianist, arranger and musical director, with more than 60 albums recorded - including 3 memorable ones with the Ceccarelli Trio, 4 with Dee Dee Bridgewater, and 6 in his own name - 4,000 concerts around the world and almost a hundred collaborations. Among the countless artists with whom he has collaborated are Dee Dee Bridgewater, Aretha Franklin, Horace Silver, Didier Lockwood, Michel Legrand, Lalo Shiffrin, Eric Serra, Roy Hargrove, his alter ego Sylvain Luc, Randy Brecker, Ron Carter, Jimmy Smith, Rhoda Scott, Claude Nougaro... and more recently, Emile Parisien, Magma, and many others. He has also composed music for numerous French song artists, for cinema and theatre. His 3 last albums recorded on DOOD Label are "Improse", "Improse Extended Trio" and "Emerson Enigma".
