Shermeise Caldwell got her beginning singing at her home church at 9 years of age. Orphaned at 7 years of age the day before Mother's Day and afterward again at 9 when her dad was killed, music and her twin sister was her lone asylum. "[Music] helped me with articulating my feelings, I simply needed people to feel me". She told a columnist in 2019. “Being advised to be seen and not heard made me not trust my feelings.” It's nerve— resilient yet vulnerable calm yet rowdy, unconventional yet relatable—that permits Caldwell's searing character to radiate through her music. Daisy In The Backseat was inspired by a conversation she had with a friend in regards to how she needed to adjust to various day to day environments growing up. Due to the flower's flexibility, daisies spoke to her. Moving into the backseat of her vehicle, turning up the sound system to it’s greatest volume, and daydreaming to the track is her #1 method to see her music before a delivery. “I need the music to move me.”
