Arp (the pseudonym most often used by Alexis Georgopoulos) is a New York-based experimental electronic composer and sound designer. A stylistic shapeshifter who draws on a background in Ethnomusicology and an encyclopedic knowledge of 20th Century music — as a journalist, he interviewed Alice Coltrane, Broadcast’s Trish Keenan, designer Peter Saville and theorist Kodwo Eshun — his diverse work is nonetheless typified by certain signature traits : an expansive sense of genre-fluidity, an interest in hypnotic counterpoint, and an inquiry into the convergence of memory, technology and the natural world. As a solo artist and collaborator, he has released music with labels such as RVNG Intl, Smalltown Supersound, Geographic North, Type, Beats in Space, Mexican Summer, Emotional Rescue, and Opal Tapes. A frequent collaborator across media, he has composed for film, installations and dance performances, working with key figures from a range of disciplines — including visual artists Tauba Auerbach and Darren Bader, filmmakers Savanah Leaf, Frank Lebon and Paul Clipson, and choreographers Brittany Bailey and Jonah Bokaer. He has presented sound and music in galleries, museums and cinemas internationally, including MoMA PS1, BAM, The Kitchen, Deitch Projects, Walker Art Center, White Columns, MoMA, and New Museum. He has been Resident Host on NTS Radio, UK since 2016.
