Henley: Piano Works

Paul Henley: the Complete Works for Ce...

Biography

Paul Henley is from Worcester, England and began composing in his teens. The reknowned composer, Howard Skempton says of Henley "An authentic 'voice' and such an evident need to communicate. The language is immediately accessible.....original and absorbing.....qualities of urgency and reflection are well conveyed." Henley initially wrote sporadically during his career as an opera singer, but now composing is his main work. His stage work 'Bethlehem Junction' has been produced three times - most recently in Ludlow in 2018. 'Elegy' was premiered by The Forum String Quartet in Birmingham in the Bournville Lunchtime Concert Series and his Sonata No.2 for Piano was premiered by Duncan Honeyboune at the Lion Ballroom, Leominster in 2019. Recent works include Theme and Variations for Clarinet Trio, String Quartet No.1, 'Turbulence' for String Orchestra, a Cor Anglais Sonata ,and 'Maiestas et Mysterium', a song cycle for Soprano and Piano. His 'Prelude' for orchestra was shortlisted for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's Composers' Day 2017 and was highly commended by Mark-Anthony Turnage. Paul's orchestral tone poem, 'The Firmament On High' was premiered in 2019 by Bridgnorth Sinfonia conducted by James Ross. He has recently completed his third Piano Sonata, dedicated to pianist Duncan Honeybourne. https://www.paulhenley-composer.com/
