Ainsley King comes from music royalty. The Afro conscious singer was born into a highly musical family in rural Tobago at the back end of the 60’s. Naturally Ainsley found himself surrounded by music from a young age. His maternal grandfather owned and played in a band. His parents Albert and Marjorie King were heavily involved in the musical scene on the sleepy island. And his older brother Johnson is the world-famous calypsonian Johnny King. A gifted vocalist he thrives on slower reggae cadences yet shows an uncanny versatility atop up-tempo calypso and soca beats. His music is essentially art in sound and paints vivid positive imagery of modern day African society. “I see my music as African art. I do a little rebellion art within the music through the lyrical content. I stand up for causes and make my point,” an emphatic Ainsley said when asked to define his sound. This year Ainsley has worked with CMMG Records to create two new soca offerings “We Don’t Care” and “Blaze the Fire”. The songs, which are part of his latest release Mood of a King album, challenging the listeners to do better in their personal lives. For 2020 Ainsley has set his sights on expanding his musical kingdom beyond the shores of his birth land.
