Audiovisual duo Sculpture combine unstable sonics and video art to uniquely synaesthetic effect. Catching a live AV set by Sculpture is to enter a maximal portal into their visionary aesthetic. Genre tropes, temporal indicators and perceptual associations are reconfigured in the moment seeking multisensory overload. A volatile simultaneity links the duo’s visual turntablism and metamorphic sound forms. With a camera mounted on a Technics turntable, Sutherland creates kaleidoscopic animations with a chaotic library of zoetropic prints. Photo collage, electromechanical imaging and cutting edge digital technique combine in fever dream patterns and op-art cuts. Hayhurst misuses samplers, reel to reel tape recorder, walkman and CDJ deck to create an analogue/digital hybrid of electronic pop and experimental splatter that maximises the results of unexpected combinations. Sculpture formed as a duo for an unrehearsed performance in 2008. Deciding to continue erratically careering, they have since played worldwide and released multimedia byproduct on labels including Dekorder, Software Recordings, kaleidoscope, Psyché Tropes, Ana Ott, Digitalis, and theitr own imprints Tapebox and Plastic Infinite.
