Gemma Abrié is one of the most experienced young voices of the Catalan jazz scene. She went up on stage for the first time at the age of 16, and since then she has not got down. After a long road trip as a vocalist in many jazz ensembles, gospel and soul of Spain and France, she still refuses to bind herself strictly to any style and tries to find her own path. Her stay in France has been instrumental in redefining her artistic DNA in the search for new musical textures and colors and bringing references, from New Orleans to Barcelona, from New York to Paris, from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. The result is a modulated voice, warm and full of shades, combining the influence of African-American music roots with Mediterranean sounds, expressed in different languages that have been part of her life experiences. One of the turning points in her career was the moment in which a bass came into her hands. An instrument she had always been devoted to, motivated her to start learning how to combine her role as a singer and instrumentalist. Thus, Gemma Abrié is emerging as a close versatile artist with great personality and communicative power, who, above all, is happy when she sings. Her current projects come from this love for music; they drink from the eternal legacy of jazz and the musical heterogeneity of the present.
