Biography

One of the most creative hip hop artists to emerge out of the Boston scene in years, Gonhills’ mix of Korean and English rapping is a refreshing sound unlike anything else. While his music provides the genre with a much needed Asian-American perspective, his ultimate goal is to build bridges between cultures and push the genre he loves into bold new territory. Born Chang Gi (Jake) Kim in Seoul, South Korea, Gonhills took a casual interest in music as a high school student, but it wasn’t until he met friend and mentor Flowsik that he began to realize his potential as a musician. The duo went on to write a series of hit songs that showcased Jake’s deft songwriting abilities. With his confidence boosted, he decided to take the next step and launch his own artist project. Naming himself after his hometown of Yongsan aka Dragon Hills, he set about creating his own legacy. In a flurry of inspiration, Gonhills spent 2020 filling his discography with singles, EP’s, and collaborations with like minded artists. As a result, he has set himself up for a bright future in hip hop. As Boston’s hip hop scene continues to grow, Gonhills has put himself in position to be one of the flag bearers of a new generation of forward thinking artists.
