A young boy being drawn to music from the age of ten and miraculously writing his own raps at the age of twelve. Having grown up in Strandfontein, Cape Town, Ty was exposed to the different lives of those in his community and the diversity that accompanies circumstances. Ty’s music has an atmosphere of local naturalness as he uses the slang which he became adapted to as he grew up. Having this diction in his music causes the listener to not only feel welcomed but to feel close to Ty and relate to him. Through his music Ty aims to tell a common yet powerful story that many people could relate to: The story of an ordinary coloured boy growing up in a good community, being raised by good parents, being surrounded by good friends but having to face his own demons and struggles as the days go by. He wants his story to speak of everyday, realistic struggles. Struggles of unemployment and the responsibility of taking care of a family. Ty’s story isn’t just his, but one for all the underdogs that never stop pushing. It is evident that Ty shows great commitment to the message he creates through his music.
