Harlem New York native Aqil Davidson began making waves at the age of 15. Desire and passionate focus would fuel his dreams of the music business. Inspired by: Run-DMC, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and LL Cool J, Aqil sought excellence every step of the way. Wreckx-N-Effect, a group he founded, became the platform to showcase his talents worldwide. Leading Wreckx, Aqil wrote chart toppers like: Billboards '89 #1 Rap chart hit New Jack Swing and the '92 multi-platinum cult smash Rump Shaker. As protege within a conglomerate overseen by music mogul Gene Griffin, Aqil brought the lyrical New York energy of Hip-Hop to the New Jack arsenal. He wrote and produced on GUY 'Future' LP with hits like UK's #1 Top 40 single HER, Bobby Brown' Top 10 single 'That's The Way Love Is' and many other stars. Michael Jackson welcomed Aqil' participation on the Dangerous album where he co/wrote and performed on the song 'She Drives Me Wild'. Before 21 his creative signature touched numerous albums throughout the industry winning him several ASCAP Top 10 awards, Pop awards, MC LYTE' Grammy nomination for 'Ruff-Neck' which became the first Gold single from a Female rap soloist, Billboard Top-10 Awards and a long list of Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum hits culminating to 2016's Soul Train Awards, performance broadcast in recognition of the New Jack Swing genre. Aqil Davidson' writer credits reflect combined sales in excess of 40 million records worldwide for his contribution to the business of music.
