Barry Hansen grew up in Northwest Washington state with parents who encouraged musical development. He took piano lessons in his younger years, and later played clarinet and then trumpet in his school bands. He spent hours listening to his father’s Frank Sinatra and Robert Goulet records, as well as his own favorites such as Barry Manilow and John Denver. In high school he found out he could sing, like his father, who acted and performed in college. With his father’s help, he found a private voice teacher and began developing his singing skills. At Brigham Young University, he sang with the university’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble and continued to study voice with private instructors. He sang in church, in talent shows, and at numerous funerals and weddings. With his wife’s encouragement, Barry began to sing professionally in 2001, working with his brother and producer Greg Hansen. He recorded lead vocals on several albums in the Christian Latter-day Saint music industry, and released his own solo album of inspirational music, titled My Soul Hungered, in 2004. Since then he has recorded several original singles and released a couple of EPs. In addition to his inspirational music, his live performance repertoire includes covers of jazz, adult contemporary, and musical theater. His warm, baritone voice has been compared to Josh Groban and Michael Bublé.
