In a career spanning 23 years Jim Baron has always kept things eclectic! Best known as the co-founder & producer of UK dance darlings Crazy P, has seen him from performing live and dj’ing to a worldwide audience & gaining a loyal army of fans. Coming out of the early nineties House explosion Crazy P found a sound that fell with the times but was clearly influenced by the past. Elements of Disco, Soul & Jazz with a quirky sense of personality has seen them continue to garner support. In spare moments Jim has always taken the opportunity to explore more diverse musical tropes, whether it be on the deeper dance-floor side with his solo Ron Basejam project, feel good vibe with Secret stealth or the Balearic leanings of White Elephant. The latter mentioned project, undertaken with friends & colleagues Chris Todd (Crazy P) and Ben Smith (Smith & Mudd, Movedrill, B.J. Smith) saw Jim re-kindle his love of a more stripped down acoustic sound. Having enjoyed those sessions so much, he got writing & experimenting in the studio to see if he could develop his own personal style. The new ‘JIM’ project is the result of these opportunistic fiddlings. The fact it is the first time he has used his own name for a project in over 20 years tells you how personal the songs are and how they are cherished. Strains of Nick Drake, Super Furry Animals, Crosby Stills & Nash can all be heard in the material. They are though, a collection of songs from the heart. Simply just... ‘JIM’
