Quindaro Album

Biography

Dixon born, Keith Dixon, in Kansas City, Kansas. In Wyandotte County, where Dixon grew up, it was ridden with crime. He has mentioned himself that he has “escaped quite a few life threatening situations as a youth.” Wyandotte County, often referred to as “The Dotte,” was statistically one of the worst cities for violence per capita in the US due to heavy gang and drug activity in the late 80s’ and 90s’. Growing up there in the 80s’ and 90s’, KD, had no choice but to align himself with the Disciples (Folk) who were allies with the Crip gangs as they ruled the majority of the neighborhoods in inner city KCK; particularly where Dixon resided as a youth. Felix “T.C.” Dixon, KD’s father, was a fairly known saxophonist, musician and recording artist. He was originally with a band called “Together” signed to major label American Broadcast Company (ABC)/Peacock Records. Despite the group Together’s effort touring the globe, the album failed to do well and they were eventually released from the label. KD’s father still remained absent from the home. Both of KD's parents were severe alcoholics. Dixon's mother was abusive and occasionally his father too until Dixon started fighting back with both of them. Originally from Quindaro Blvd, Dixon’s mother ultimately left him with his maternal grandmother on 13th street in Wyandotte County and never came back to get him. Failing in school and having numerous physical altercations in the neighborhood Dixon didn't have a very good outlook on life. He turned to Hip-Hop and joined a rap group called Def Administration (DA). Dixon subsequently won numerous rap battles in Kansas City. He occasionally uses an alias "Aviator." Still facing setbacks like being temporarily placed in a group home, KD moved in with his paternal grandparents who, at the time, lived affluently. As they fell into financial hardship, losing a business, they asked Dixon to leave. Now 18 years old, Dixon eventually became homeless sleeping in an abandoned house and then the back seat of a Cutlass he bought for $500 dollars. Occasionally, he stayed with people like childhood friend and rap partner Def D(Purfek). Dixon was attending junior college this whole time, he discovered a talent for acting and comedy. He applied for a transfer to Central Missouri State University, now the University of Central Missouri. He was accepted but didn't attend for years as he did not know how to afford college. KD became a new father having a little girl and was working 3 jobs at the time. Music wasn't going well for the group Def Administration and another childhood friend educated Dixon about financial aid. Learning about financial aid, KD reapplied to CMSU and went away to college. The group DA never released an album due to the fact that they were never signed and they never released an independent album, adversely to Def D’s desire, because Dixon was never 100% satisfied with the music. The group eventually broke up due to personal and creative differences. Dixon left college and started producing various acts and created his production company MidWorld Entertainment®. Felix returned home to the KC area by this time and joined his son's production company. Ironically, KD and his father became best friends. Dixon eventually had a couple of R&B songs he had written and produced end up on some compilations on the east coast with only a mild inquiry from Murder Inc. Records (now The Inc.). Outside of that, there was still no great success with the music and artists. KD taught himself to read music, he learned piano chords and eventually taught himself to play the guitar (now his main instrument). The quality of the music produced increased with every new song. Dixon went back to CMSU to finish his degree in Literature with a minor in Business (Pre-law). Dixon is also member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He returned home to Kansas City area on the Kansas side with his daughter where he continued to raise her as a single father. Shortly after that, KD’s mother passed away mysteriously in her home near Quindaro Blvd. She was only 56 years old. This was a tremendous blow to Dixon and his daughter. KD continued to work his way up within various corporations in management. Before embarking on law school endeavors, KD wanted to help his father with his 3rd solo album but unfortunately TC Dixon passed away due to lung cancer before they were finished with the album. He was only 60 years old. Because the two became so close this also was significant blow to Dixon and his daughter. TC always advised his son, KD, to turn MidWorld Entertainment® into a record label and make it official. Following his father’s untimely demise, Dixon took his advice. KD decided before going back to Law school, to try again at music and he started working on his first solo album entitled “Quindaro” which will feature various artists from the Kansas City metro. This album will be very personal to him because it will be a reflection of how he grew up as well as a reflection of Quindaro. However, the album primarily is about hope and solidarity as the word "Quindaro" means "bundle of sticks." It is a Wyandot tribe expression meaning strength in numbers. Dixon and associates scoured the city looking for talented vocalists and rappers. The title track “Quindaro” will feature Felix TC Dixon playing the saxophone. The song was completed posthumously with additional vocals as it was incomplete prior to Dixon’s father passing. Dixon’s father, Felix T.C. Dixon, will never hear the completed Quindaro title track due to his passing. Dixon invested his savings into his studio and updated the software and equipment with industry standard upgrades. The new songs he has created have gained attention from famous producers like Damon Elliot, son of Dionne Warwick and also gained the attention of west coast producer and Dr Dre affiliate, Battlecat. His new work also gained attention from other celebrities and performers like rapper Glasses Malone and others. Glasses Malone once told Dixon ["real" recognizes real]. The "Quindaro" album will also feature nationally acclaimed recording artists as well, primarily because they are good friends and/or supporters of Dixon. Though KD is the same perfectionist he ever was, he feels quite adamant about the songs on this album. The "Quindaro" album is tentatively scheduled to be released through MidWorld Entertainment® in October 28th of 2016.
