Simone Santi Gubini: The Black Exposit...

Biography

Simone Santi Gubini (*1980) is an Italian composer, born in Rome, who lives and works in Berlin. He is particularly interested in music as an intense physical experience, in music that demands to be fulfilled. Through the use of highly textured developments, extreme ambiguity and overexposed tones, the composer shapes a raw and tangible sound. He creates maximum contrasts on every musical parameter and an explosion of ever-changing connections to form new ones, forcing established perceptions to finally collapse. The brutality of the volume and the unrelenting intensity of the music demand great physical strength from the performer, a state of absolute control, while at the same time experiencing the loss of it. The body of the instruments (hyper-instrument) transmits the enormous release of sound to the audience. An energy, an accelerating force of sound that manifests itself as shock. Shock as an intense musical experience. On January 26, 2024, his monograph *The Black Exposition* was released on the contemporary music label NEOS, with recordings by the Ensemble Musikfabrik under the musical direction of Gregor A. Mayrhofer, as well as the two international soloists Carl Rosman and Patrick Stadler. The album is the last CD production in the legendary Hans Rosbaud Studio before its closure at the end of October 2023.
