Biography

Grammy winning tenorman Claus Waidtlow is one of the leading saxophone voices on the Danish Jazzscene. His big and beautiful sound combined with his melodic and compassionate play has given Waidtlow many fans all over the world. His release, Sunday (with Portraits in Jazz, from 2021) has gained more than 17 million streams on Spotify alone, which is somewhat remarkably for a jazzinstrumental album. Besides being recognized by a big audience Waidtlow is also higly praised by jazzcritics around the world: On New Beginning (2018): ”This album should be of interest to all Jazz connoisseurs the world over. The special European flavor, elegance and grace simple place it ahead of most other mainstream recordings originating from across the pond. A delightful gem!” (Adam Baruch from The soundtrack of my life). On his bigband album, The Seasons (2021): ”Brilliant writing, wonderful arrangements and fabulous performances mark this album out as something special. Move over Vivaldi, there’s a Danish jazz master called Claus Waidtløw waiting to take your crown” (Mike Gates, UK Vibe). He has played and recorded with jazz masters like Toots Thielemanns, Kurt Elling, John Scofield, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Eddie Gomez, Steve Swallow, Christian McBride, Jeff Ballard and many more. In 2015 he won a Danish Grammy award for his album Playhouse.
