Sanele Thabethe/Mbatha fondly known as DJ Sekza in the nightlife circles is a multi-talented DJ, Artist & Producer. Born in the small location of Hammarsdale, just outside Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal. With little to no privacy growing up, music became his outlet and his family would later come to realize and celebrate his talent of capturing moments into melodies and rhythmic beats. drawing inspiration and street smarts from a more mature group of influential men in the community called The Jazz Club - initially a Stokvel, later a social group where Jazz and Fusion House Music genres were the heart of their monthly gatherings. It wasn’t long after, that this self-taught DJ took plates into his own hands, and in the year 2006 started to DJ at local 21st Birthdays and other social events. His entrance into the competitive house music space in his home city would prove to be a true “fight in music” as his debut album is so perfectly titled. It wasn’t until a brief partnership with DJ Clock - a household name in South African house music, that his passion for making music of his own was sparked. He then began to work with Scelo Gowane, ExMusiq, DJ QT, Skywanda & many more and DJ Sekza founded his own production company & Events management - SMG Productions which has made him business savvy in the industry. And The 14-year fight in music turned into triumph, when the largest record label in South Africa, Gallo Record Company, took notice of this rising star and signed him in 2017.
