Biography

Chris Morrissey is a Brooklyn-based bassist, singer, producer, arranger, bandleader, and songwriter who has glided between jazz, pop, country, reggae, and indie rock -- mostly as a live performance bassist, but also as a session musician, solo artist, and in roles such as music director for Sara Bareilles' Little Black Dress tour in 2014. Raised in Minnesota by two musician parents, Morrissey grew up playing the trumpet but picked up the bass in his mid-teens. After relocating to New York in his twenties, he released his debut full-length as the Chris Morrissey Quartet. A contemporary indie jazz album, The Morning World was issued on the Sunnyside label in 2009. His indie rock project, Taurus, self-released Cannon Falls Forever in 2011 and North Hero, a jazz LP under his own name, arrived in 2013, again with a four-piece and on Sunnyside. He's toured the world playing bass with acts as diverse as Andrew Bird, Roseanne Cash, the Jim Campilongo Trio, and Trixie Whitley, and recorded with, among others, Cyndi Lauper, Ben Kweller, Lucius, and Sara Bareilles on her 2013 release, The Blessed Unrest. Continuing to collaborate with Bareilles and touring extensively with a variety of other indie and jazz artists, he arranged Charlie Chaplin's "Smile" for the "in memoriam" segment of the 2014 Emmy Awards broadcast. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
