Biography

Niño Tiro's music is anachronistic, eccentric, and outright melodic. Heralded as a " composer born in the wrong time," his music is described as "Neo-Classical and Neo-Romantic with a dash of postminimalist and modern classical styles. Since 2018, Niño has garnered many academic and cultural accolades as a composer. He is a recipient of the Philippine National Award: The NCCA's 2021 Ani Ng Dangal Award in Music. Born in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, he started piano lessons at five. In his teens, upon realizing his passion for music regardless of genre, he pursued a life in music, playing the piano and bass in a band and orchestral setting. He is classically trained and a well-known and respected piano and composition pedagogue in the Philippines. In 2020, he was the only Filipino composer of the "250 Piano Pieces for Beethoven International Composition Project" by international pianist Susanne Kessel. Kessel also played his works on the famous German radio station WDR, and he got featured countless times on 98.7 DZFE-FM The Master's Touch radio. UCLA and Universal Edition featured his pieces on their respective websites. In 2021, He co-wrote the soundtrack to the restored 1911 Italian Silent film Pinocchio. He is a grantee of the NCCA's 2022 Competitive Grants Program, and through that, he released an album of Chamber Music, Chamber Works, featuring great musicians of the Philippines on October 25, 2022.
