The Ballad of Martin Doheny

A Celtic Farewell

Biography

An Irish born singer/song writer whose influences arrive from John Denver, James Taylor & Gilbert O’Sullivan. Recent releases include, 'THE BALLAD of MARTIN DOHENY'. 'SINGING WRITER'S SONGS,' the anti-war song 'WHO'S RULING THIS WORLD' 'CRASHED', 'SAY', 'SAN ANTONIE HOTEL'. 'PARALLEL WORLD', 'WHEN EMILY SMILES', 'GIRL ON A TRAIN', and 'A CHORD IN ME'. The album ‘A LOST RENAISSANCE’ was hailed as an explosion of originality. “You will love the pictures that are painted by the colourful lyrics expressed in exciting arrangements”. It is a topical collection of Doheny songs that cut to the bone of some social issues. From the thought provoking ‘LOST IT ALL’ (which was the most requested song on Irish Radio WLR FM), to the heartbreak in ‘OVERBOARD’ (a story of loss and despair), to the materialism identified in ‘GREEN FIELDS’, this album uses colourful themes that are well crafted, exhilarating in the choruses and drive the emotion home. Anthony’s first airplay was in the eighties with the wonderful ballad ‘The Blasket Islands’. a song written about the changing fortunes of the Blasket Islanders and how they had to leave their homes. Since this first introduction, Doheny has continued to compose and record original material, some of which have been associated with his native city: ‘The Men In White & Blue,’ ‘The Tall Ships Race Festival’ and ‘Remember Waterford.’
