With a smooth voice, refreshing sound, Akin has his sights set on becoming a household name in the UK music industry. Whether connecting to his African roots through jazz, or the outstanding use of futuristic RnB and Gospel vocal harmonies in his songs, the artist is coming with a fresh approach to how music is both created and experienced. Being the son of a former choir director and musicologist, Akin was exposed to a lot of music from a very tender age. His music-loving father helped to cultivate his passion for the art starting by giving him piano lessons at the age of 5. Years on, he has worked with numerous choirs across the country. He graduated from Leeds College of Music, majoring in Jazz with the saxophone as his principal instrument. As a songwriter and musician, Akin mostly draws inspiration from his life experiences as well as the experiences of others in order to ensure that the music he creates is always relatable. He is also inspired by an eclectic mix of artists such as Brandy, Daniel Caesar, JP Cooper, Shakka and Emeli Sandé and has derived his unique sound by combining elements from some of his favourite artists. American singer-songwriter Tori Kelly, who Akin also happens to be a big fan of, recently talked about how “beautiful” his voice is. Having Jermaine Jackson and Tori Kelly talk about Akin’s talents is certainly an indication of just how much talent he is brimming with.
