Biography

Laura Ruiz Ferreres is a Spanish clarinetist, based in Germany. She is noted for her mastery of both French and German styles of fingering. She started taking music lessons with her father, and then studied the clarinet in Barcelona, London, Basel, and Berlin. Her teachers were Joan Enric Lluna, Anthony Pay, François Benda, and Karl-Heinz Steffens. She also attended master classes with Thea King, Andrew Marriner, Michael Collins, Larry Combs, Karl Leister, Alois Brandhoffer, and Walter Boeykens. Ruiz Ferreres has participated in many European competitions, including the London Symphony Shell Woodwind Competition and the Tunbridge Wells International Young Artists Competition in Great Britain, the "Marco Fiorindo" International Clarinet Competition in Italy, the Concurso Internacional de clarinete Ciudad de Dos Hermanas, and the Primer Palau in Spain, as well as the Concours national d'exécution musicale de Riddes (CNEM) in Switzerland. She performed with the Berlin Comic Opera; the Brandenburg Symphony; the Heidelberg State Philharmonic Orchestra; the Geneva Sinfonietta; the German Chamber Orchestra, Berlin; the Orquesta de Cambra de Granollers; the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallés; and the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya. She also appeared as a concerto soloist with such ensembles as the Staatskapelle Dresden, Staatskapelle Berlin, Hamburg Philharmonic and the Orquestra de Cadaques, and played in concerts conducted by Daniel Barenboim, Colin Davis, Pierre Boulez, Bernard Haitink, Neville Marriner, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Kent Nagano, Christoph Eschenbach, and Paavo Järvi. As a founding member of the Ensemble Mediterrain, she has toured across Europe and South America. Ruiz Ferreres is a professor of clarinet at the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt.
