Biography

Not to be confused with the LA-based band of the same name, The Internet (sometimes stylized as ///Internet) is a Santa Barbara, California-based band specializing in clever, 80s-influenced twists on the pop formula. In 2014, The Santa Barbara Independent described their sound as “post-punk meets art-pop.” Formed in 2010, the band is led by frontman Marvin Dominguez, who provides the vocals and production for most of the band’s work. The Internet, when in between lineups and creative incarnations, has very much been a solo project of Dominguez’s. The current lineup consists of Marvin Dominguez (lead vocals and synthesizer), Steve Oh Prat (guitar and vocals), Tommy Curran (bass), and Jay Brooks (drums). While originally labeling themselves as a shoegaze band, as evidenced in their self-titled EP The Internet and debut album Catalogue, they’ve since shifted to a poppier, almost dreamlike sound. In 2018, they released a split EP with Late Bloomers called Complete Sense which featured additional songwriting from Steve Oh.
