Biography

Pianist, conductor and composer Chris Hopkins is a towering force in the modern classical scene, spanning symphonic work, instrumental solo and chamber concert performance, studio recording and opera at an international level. Chris has performed throughout the UK, in the US, Asia and extensively in Europe as well as live and recorded appearances on BBC 1, Classic FM and BBC Radio 2, 3 and 4. He was honoured in 2013 to be made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. He is a frequent face at the London Coliseum, recently conducting the new hit production of HMS Pinafore at English National Opera following from previous acclaimed performances of The Mikado, Iolanthe, The Magic Flute, La Bohème and so on. He is principal conductor of English Sinfonia and Orchestra of the City and has worked at the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne Opera, with Grange Park Opera, Opera de Paris, English Chamber Orchestra, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Crash Ensemble, London Mozart Players, Birdgang Ltd, and appeared at many festivals including Aldeburgh, Presteigne, Cubitt Sessions and Latitude. Chris Hopkins launches his solo piano project with an exciting blend of classical ferocity and an astute musical awareness of non-classical influences including electronic, world, pop and cinema.
